KANSAS HIGHER-ED FUNDING

  • The Kansas Governor aims to restore some of Pittsburg State's funding.  Governor Jeff Colyer signed the state budget bill on Tuesday restoring $15-Million in state higher education funding.   The budget bill restores about $640-Thousand to PSU for the 2019 fiscal year that begins in July.  Roughly  $610-Thousand will go to the university's general fund.

OVERTURNED CONVICTION COMPENSATION

  • Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer on Tuesday signed a new law that will grant cash compensation to wrongly convicted residents for time served behind bars.  The legislation says that if a guilty verdict is overturned, the person who was wrongfully convicted is eligible for $65-Thousand for each year of incarceration.  The Kansas law takes effect in July.

NORTH KOREA THREATS

  • The White House says the U.S. is examining North Korea's threat to cancel an upcoming summit between President Trump and Kim Jong Un.  On Wednesday, the North warned it may no longer be interested in the meeting if President Trump presses for Pyongyang to give up its nuclear weapons.  President Trump and Kim are due to meet in Singapore on June 12.

SEVERE WEATHER

  • Parts of the Northeast are cleaning up following deadly weather on Tuesday.  Heavy rain, hail and powerful winds hit the region...flooding roads and uprooting trees from Washington D.C. to Boston.  Hundreds of thousands of customers lost power.
