Fatal Crash In Southwest Missouri Kills One, Injures 4 Others

The crash happened in Lawrence County, MO around 10:10 a.m. on May 13th, 2018. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a Honda Accord pulled out from a private drive into the path of a Hyundai Sonata on Highway 39 about four miles north of Mt. Vernon. Five people were taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO.

The Honda Accord was driven by 95-year-old John Lomas of Mt. Vernon. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. His passenger, 90-year-old Helen Lomas died at the hospital.

The Hyundai Sonata had three occupants. The driver, a 73-year-old Miller, Mo resident, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. A 45-year-old passenger from Springfield, MO was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  An 11-year-old Springfield boy was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

This is MSHP Troop D's 39th fatality for 2018.
