Southeast Baseball Preps for State

Updated:

The Southeast Lancers are headed back to the 3A state baseball tournament for the second straight season. Tuesday, the Lancers topped the Caney Valley Bullpups 4-2 to win a regional title and advance to Manhattan.

Southeast is 19-1 heading to the state tournament. The team won the Three Rivers League title in the regular season, posting a 16-0 record against league opponents.

Last season the Lancers made the state bracket for the first time in school history. This time, they're taking some experience with them, and they have their eyes on winning the whole thing.

"After last season, they've experienced what it was like to get there," says head coach David Dainty, "They had never been there before. After going there and experiencing it, playing every game this year it has been a goal just to get back and do it again."

"The moment isn't going to be too big for us this year," says senior catcher Jake Burns, "We were really amped up last year, but we're going to be a lot more collected."

The Lancers are the #2 seed in the 3A state bracket. They'll face Sabetha (20-3) in the first round on Thursday at 11 AM. Click HERE to check out the complete state tournament bracket.

Tuition is still going up at Missouri Southern State University, but it's tweaking the cost increase to credit hours to avoid a state fine. Missouri Southern's Board of Governors approved a 15 percent increase in student tuition last April, upping credit hours by $30. But state education law doesn't allow tuition increases beyond the consumer price index. To avoid a $1.1 million fine, MSSU adjusted down the tuition increase to $20 more per credit.
