Violations Alleged After Kansas Waterpark Inspection

Updated:

The Kansas waterpark where a 10-year-old boy died in 2016 is accusing the state Department of Labor of publishing "misleading and false information" by releasing an audit from a recent state inspection.   A state inspection last week found 11 alleged violations of amusement park regulations at the Schlitterbahn park in Kansas City, Kansas.
Spokeswoman Winter Prosapio said Schlitterbahn will challenge the audit's details publicly later this week.
The Kansas Department of Labor made the audit public Tuesday, a day after issuing a notice of violations to the park. The department sent a team to the park last week to review inspection safety signs.
The department said the park must address dozens of issues raised by the audit and covered by the 11 counts of alleged violations. But it also said those issues "constitute a first offense" and issued a warning.
Schlitterbahn has been closed as planned since the end of its 2017 season last fall and is scheduled to reopen Friday.
