Pools Open to Warm Weather on Holiday Weekend

The  pool in Pittsburg is  now  officially open for summer. The Pittsburg aquatic center  will be open during the summer months to all from one to five  and family swim time will be from five-15 to seven p-m.
    Many local residents visited the aquatic center to escape the heat Saturday afternoon. A

The Pittsburg parks and rec department will be offering several swimming programs and lessons during the summer months.

In Joplin, the parks and recreation department posted the following schedule  information about city pools. 

Schifferdecker Aquatic Center  417-625-4781 Hours of Operation: 
Monday - Sunday: 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm 
Family Swim Nights feature half price admission from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm (June 1/15/22/29, July 6/13/27, & August 3)
Adult Lap Swim for those 18 and up is held Tuesdays - Fridays from 7:00 am - 11:00 am and costs $1.50/person, season pass holders are free
Note: Schifferdecker will be closed to the public on June 8-10 and July 21-22 for swim meets.
Schifferdecker will close for the season on August 12
Admission Prices:  
Children $4.00 
Adults $5.00 
Children 2 and under are free

Cunningham will close for the season on September 3 (will be weekends only (Sat/Sun) after August 5)

What has been a roller coaster primary between Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer and Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Colyer announced today he is conceding defeat and is endorsing Kobach. Kobach will face the Democratic nominee Laura Kelly.  Governor Colyer was elevated from his position after former Kansas Governor Sam Brownback took an ambassador's position.

    A Springfield man was indicted by a federal grand jury today (Aug 14, 2018) for making a bomb threat at a Veterans Affairs Clinic. 48-year-old Richard Leslie Turner III allegedly threatened to blow up the Community Based Outpatient Clinic located at 600 N. Main Street in Mount Vernon, Missouri.
