Catching up With Ashley Ray - KOAM TV 7

Catching up With Ashley Ray

Updated:

Former Girard High School basketball player and current K-State Wildcat Ashley Ray is back in Girard this week, helping out her former head coach Brad Herlocker with summer basketball camp.

Ray just finished up her first year at Kansas State. As a freshman, she appeared in 31 of the team's 34 games, including making three starts.

"It was really surreal," Ray says, "Going to a Division I school I didn't think I would sniff the court until junior year. They threw me out there as a freshman to kind of get my feet wet a little bit and they let me start a few games. It's so different going from high school ball to college ball, the speed of the game and everything."

As for being back helping with basketball camp this week, Ray says she just loves to give back to the place where she grew up.

"I love to give back," Ray adds, "I love to see the future Trojans that are going to be on the court. I love to help out and make sure they're getting where they need to be."
