CRAWFORD COUNTY, KANSAS -

Authorities recover the body of a Pittsburg man who drowned in rural Crawford County, KS.

On June 3, 2018, at 3:50 p.m. the sheriff's office responded to a call about a man who fell out of a small boat while fishing in a pit without a life jacket. 
The pit is located west of 190th on 590 Avenue.  

Another man went in after the first but was unable to recover him.  The second man then swam to shore and walked to a nearby home for help.  
Emergency responders were unable to locate the missing fisherman.

Divers and rescue boats responded to the scene and searched the last known location of the victim. After an extensive search, recovery efforts were suspended late in the evening on Sunday and were scheduled to resume first thing Monday morning.

On Monday afternoon at 1:20 p.m., emergency crews recovered the body of Johnnie Brackett, 80 years old. His body was taken to Kansas City for an autopsy.

Arma Fire, Baker Fire, Frontenac Fire, Pittsburg Fire, Crawford County EMS, Frontenac PD, Girard PD, and Officers from Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism responded to the scene.

    The Kansas Board of Regents approves Pittsburg State University's proposal to increase tuition for the 2018-19 academic year. With the 2.6% increase, full-time in-state undergraduate students will pay $73 more per semester bringing the total tuition rate to $2,847/semester. Full-time in-state graduate students will see an increase of $84 per semester bringing their total tuition rate to $3,280/semester. PSU says departments across campus are working to tighten spending.
