Body Recovered After Drowning

Authorities recover the body of a Pittsburg man who drowned in rural Crawford County, KS.

On June 3, 2018, at 3:50 p.m. the sheriff's office responded to a call about a man who fell out of a small boat while fishing in a pit without a life jacket.
The pit is located west of 190th on 590 Avenue.

Another man went in after the first but was unable to recover him.  The second man then swam to shore and walked to a nearby home for help.
Emergency responders were unable to locate the missing fisherman.

Divers and rescue boats responded to the scene and searched the last known location of the victim. After an extensive search, recovery efforts were suspended late in the evening on Sunday and were scheduled to resume first thing Monday morning.

On Monday afternoon at 1:20 p.m., emergency crews recovered the body of Johnnie Brackett, 80 years old. His body was taken to Kansas City for an autopsy.

Arma Fire, Baker Fire, Frontenac Fire, Pittsburg Fire, Crawford County EMS, Frontenac PD, Girard PD, and Officers from Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism responded to the scene.
