Police Make An Arrest For The Arson Of A Pittsburg Warehouse

PITTSBURG, KANSAS -

A fire in Pittsburg overnight leaves one warehouse damaged and a suspect in custody. Authorities say the fire was reported shortly after 2:00 a.m. June 5th, at the Pitt Craft Storage Warehouse at 1st and Locust St. and was extinguished around 8:45 a.m. During the fire the south side wall collapsed on a firefighter who was taken to the hospital, treated and released. 1st and Locust street is closed until the scene is deemed safe. It is unknown at this time if the structure will be a total loss. According to authorities a homeless man was arrested after admitting to setting the fire as well as squatting in the property. The Pittsburg Police Department is asking owners of vacant properties to routinely inspect their buildings for indications of damage, tampering, trespassing, theft or any other signs of criminal activity. The Pittsburg police Department and the Pittsburg Fire Department are continuing to investigate this matter. Anyone having information related to this incident, or other crimes, is urged to contact the Pittsburg Police Department.
