Pitt State SS Colton Pogue Selected in MLB Draft

RELEASE FROM PITTSBURG STATE ATHLETICS:

NEW YORK – Colton Pogue became Pittsburg State's seventh baseball player in school history selected in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft Wednesday (June 6). The senior shortstop was selected in the 29th round by the Washington Nationals organization.

Pogue wrapped up his senior campaign earning first-team All-MIAA and second-team All-Central Region honors. The Blue Springs, Mo., native batted .400 with 64 runs scored, 19 doubles, 10 home runs and 42 RBIs. He earned honorable mention All-MIAA honors as a junior in 2017, batting .354 with 18 doubles, nine home runs and 48 RBIs. Pogue transferred to Pitt State from NCAA Division I Western Illinois University where he played two seasons (2015-16).
 
Other Pittsburg State draftees include: Kerry Compton (1965, 18th round, New York Yankees), David Ross (1966, 14th round, New York Yankees), Stephen Eagan (1967, 6th round, Boston Red Sox), Travis Shaffer (1992, 41st round, New York Mets), Scott Beach (1995, 42nd round, Pittsburgh Pirates) and Matt Stalcup (2013, 9th round, Oakland Athletics).
