Updated:

POTENTIAL K-9 CUTS

  • Joplin police union members say a proposal to get rid of K-9 positions is a step towards uncertain community safety.  During Monday's city council meeting, Joplin's finance director proposed, among other things, phasing out two police officer K-9 positions.  That would mean Joplin's K-9 roster would go from five to three.

MSSU VETERAN SUMMIT

  • Military veterans gather for a networking summit held at Missouri Southern.  The 20-18 veterans business round table was a way to link veterans who own businesses with veterans who want to start a business as a way to share community resources.  The event offered workshops on how to enhance growth and develop strategies.

TRUMP AGAINST ACA

  • The Trump administration won't defend some key parts of the Affordable Care Act.  In court papers filed last night, the justice department sided with a lawsuit brought by Texas and 19 other republican-led states.  It seeks to have the individual mandate to have health insurance declared unconstitutional.  It's also asking a judge to strike down a provision guaranteeing coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

G7 SUMMIT

  • President Trump will be in Canada today for the start of the G7 Summit.  In recent days, Mister Trump has traded barbs with other G7 leaders, mostly over trade.  President Macron of France said the U.S. might be excluded from the summit's traditional statement of unity.
