Local Man Reacts to Knowing Shooter Involved in the Death of Father of Two

Ronnie Harris was shocked like many to learn that a former classmate was named as the shooter in an incident that resulted in the death of a father of two.

"I was baffled. I really could not believe that it was Chris Montz. I saw the picture and i was like no, it can't be. You know, maybe somebody else," said Harris.

But police confirm that the shooter was Montz who was arrested on the scene of the crime after shooting David Reynolds over what's believed to be a road rage incident.

"As a result of the investigation, Christopher Montz was arrested for first degree assault and armed criminal action," said Austin Wolf of the Joplin Police Department.

Even so, as Harris flips through pages of his yearbook, he finds it difficult to process that the person he sat next to in class was capable of murder.

"I mean, he was friendly. He talked to everybody for the most part," Harris said.

Harris wonders what drove Montz to take such extremes.

"I'm trying to figure out why. I mean I'm sure we all want to know why. I mean, a father of two just taken like that," stated Harris.

Tragedies like this are hard to wrap our heads around, but for Harris, one thing has become clear.

"Cherish every moment...as what happened with that accident, you'll never know when the last time you'll see somebody," Harris said.

The investigation is ongoing and Montz could be faced with more charges as the case develops.

According to Sheriff Groves, a road construction worker from KDOT was taken to a Joplin hospital with what he believes to be non-life threatening injuries after being electrocuted today (June 22, 2018).
