Lamar Pool Closes Due to Leaking Pipes

Updated:
LAMAR, MISSOURI -

The city pool in Lamar, Missouri is closed until further notice.

The Lamar Aquatic Park was closed today - and could be for the rest of the season - because of severe damage to pipes for the leisure pool.

We're told the pool has leaked for a few years - but has gotten much worse since the pool opened for the season. That leak has caused the pool to lose more than 60-thousand gallons of water each day.

As a result -- the Lamar City Council voted to close the entire center until costs of repairs can be determined -- and repairs are made.

Abby Kluhsman, an employee at the aquatic center, says the closure came as a shock to her- and her fellow lifeguards.

Kluhsman says,"All of us lifeguards and stuff, we work really really hard into putting everything together. We spent countless hours. We just repainted everything, it looks great, it smells great, so it's kind of mind blowing for everyone just to have them like close it down so easily."

Heidi Johnson, Director of Lamar Parks and Recreation, says the decision to close the center is one that was not taken lightly.

Johnson says,"No decision that our council ever makes is made lightly and I know that they are doing what they feel is the very best thing for our community. It is all of our hope that we'll be able to get this repaired and have it open. But just not this season."

All season passes will be refunded within the next couple of weeks.

Johnson adds that any events happening at the park this weekend *are* still on.
