Iola Police Hooked on Fishing not on Drugs Fishing Derby - June 23

Saturday, June 23rd from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Iola Police Department will host the annual HOFNOD Fishing derby on Saturday June the 23rd. at Craig and Georgia Abbotts Pond. If you would like to pre-register your 2-17 year old children you can do that prior to the event up to Thursday June the 21st at 5:00 p.m. at the Iola Police Department. The children will fish in three different age groups 2-8, 9-12, 13-17. Gates open at 7:00, rules at 8:00, fishing to start following the rules. We will fish until 10:30, awards will follow and hotdog and chips will be provided by Dudley's Done Right BBQ for all children registered at 11:00.

Parking for the event will be located at the Grace Lutheran Church, 117 E Miller Road and overflow parking located at Precision International 25 West Miller Road.

    Two Kansas deputies killed in the line of duty will be laid to rest Thursday. On Friday, June 15th, 2018, Wyandotte County deputies Theresa King and Patrick Rohrer were shot while transferring an inmate from the courthouse back to jail after a hearing. Authorities say the inmate apparently overpowered the deputies in a gated area behind the courthouse and shot them - possibly with one of their own guns.
