JASPER COUNTY FATAL

  • A Carthage man died yesterday in a three-vehicle crash.  It happened on highway 96 east of town.  Authorities say 26-year-old Tyler Box was killed when the pickup he was driving sideswiped a dump truck, then struck another pickup head-on.  The second pickup driver had moderate injuries.

JOPLIN RE-ZONING

  • The former site of Joplin's Irving Elementary school could soon see new life.  The planning and zoning commission voted last night to approve a rezoning request from Chris Parrish.  He's the owner of the Webb City Gringo's.  Parrish says he intends to open a similar facility at 26th and Wall avenue.  The request will move on to the August sixth council meeting for the council to either approve or deny.

PRESIDENT TO BRUSSELS

  • President Trump will be in Belgium for the start of a week-long visit to Europe.  The president will attend NATO meetings in Brussels before heading to the UK.  Mister Trump will then go to Helsinki for a sit down with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

SUPREME COURT NOMINEE

  • President Trump's Supreme Court nominee is Federal Appellate Judge Brett Kavanaugh.  Mister trump announced the pick last night in a nationally-televised event at the white house.  The 53-year-old Kavanaugh would replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.  His nomination was met with raucous protests outside the supreme court.

    "According to the county health rankings, Labette County is ranked 101 out of 103 counties in Kansas for health," said Lisa Hoppock. The newest administrator of Public Health of Labette County would rather be number 1 as opposed to 101, but admits it won't be easy.
