SAFEST CITIES

  • Carl Junction earns bragging rights as one of the safest cities in Missouri.  Carl Junction ranked third on the list from Safewise.com.  It used 2016 FBI violence crime data to create a top 20 list.  Carl Junction's crime is primarily property based.  The police chief says safety gets a boost from a good relationship with the school district where officers are located.

PENCE IN K.C.

  • Vice President Mike Pence was in Kansas City yesterday as part of a trip to fundraiser for conservative legislators throughout the Midwest.  On Wednesday he helped Kansas Republican congressman Kevin Yoder, who faces a tough re-election fight in the state's third district.  Pence's visit centered around promoting President Trump's tax plan.

REUNITING IMMIGRANTS

  • The Trump administration says by this morning it expects all children under the age of five who are eligible will be reunited with immigrant parents in the U.S.  Government attorneys told a U.S. district judge in San Diego they need more time to track down parents who have already been deported.  The deadline for reuniting parents with the roughly 2,000 older children remaining is later this month.

SCHNATTER RESIGNS

  • The man who founded and was the public face of Papa Johns pizza, John Schnatter has resigned from his role as chairman of the board.  Schnatter reportedly used a racial slur during a conference call in May.  He has apologized.
