West, Clemons to Lead Pitt State Receiver Group - KOAM TV 7

West, Clemons to Lead Pitt State Receiver Group

Updated:

The football season is officially here for the Pittsburg State Gorillas.

The team opened up camp on Monday morning at Carnie Smith Stadium. Pitt State is just over three weeks away from their season opener, which will be at home against Central Oklahoma on August 30th.

The Gorillas have some nice weapons coming back at the receiver position. 2017 leading receiver Lorenzo West is back for his junior season. West started eleven of twelve games last year, picking up 518 yards and five touchdowns.

Redshirt-sophomore Brenner Clemons is also back this year after dealing with injury in 2017. Clemons played in just two games last season, catching ten passes for 165 yards and two scores in limited action. in 2016, Clemons was the MIAA Freshman of the Year, catching 42 balls for 559 yards and four touchdowns.

"He's a tremendous athlete," head coach Tim Beck says of Clemons, "He's got great hands. He's got great knowledge of the game. He's a bigger bodied guy that has great body control. So you know those two guys (Clemons and West), we're going to start with, and then we've got some other guys that can fill in. We feel like we've got a good group there."

Missouri Drivers Rank Among the Worst in New Study

"I don't believe that Missouri drivers as a whole are unsafe drivers in any form or fashion," said Sgt. John Luechenhoff of the Missouri Highway Patrol. The sergeant isn't dismissing a new ranking of states with the worst drivers conducted by financial technology firm SmartAsset, but he feels it doesn't tell the whole story about Missouri.
