Carl Junction Season Preview - KOAM TV 7

Carl Junction Season Preview

Updated:

The Carl Junction Bulldogs are in the middle of their first week of football practice.

The Bulldogs have become one of the most reliably good teams in the state of Missouri. In the last five years under head coach Doug Buckmaster, CJ is 49-10, and has played for a district title four times.

The Bulldogs don't appear to be slowing down any time soon.

Carl Junction returns 14 starters from last year's team that went 10-2. That includes five players on offense and nine on defense. Offensively they have their starting quarterback, Joe Kennedy, returning from 2017. Kennedy was a 1st team All-COC selection as a junior.

It's not all good news for the Bulldogs, however. They'll be without one of their best players, and one of the best running backs in the state. After a knee injury this offseason, Rayquion Weston will be sidelined for his senior year.

"We have skill position type players on this football team that could run and are very, very good athletes," says CJ head coach Doug Buckmaster, "It may be more of a running back by committee type deal. We feel really, really good about 2 or 3 of these kids that could potentially, you know, be our running back. We expect to have the same type of production. It's just not going to be done by one guy."

Carl Junction will open up the season on the 24th, on the road against rival Webb City.

Missouri Drivers Rank Among the Worst in New Study

"I don't believe that Missouri drivers as a whole are unsafe drivers in any form or fashion," said Sgt. John Luechenhoff of the Missouri Highway Patrol. The sergeant isn't dismissing a new ranking of states with the worst drivers conducted by financial technology firm SmartAsset, but he feels it doesn't tell the whole story about Missouri.
