NEGATIVE COMMENTS

  • Comments made by a member of the Joplin Use Tax committee are stirring up some controversy.  Fraternal Order of Police President Shelby Howard says a member of the Joplin Use Tax Committee made "disparing and degrading" remarks aimed at the police and fire departments.  They also allege he made negative remarks toward officers that have fallen in the line of duty.

DIALYSIS DELAY

  • A Pittsburg Dialysis Center finally gets the inspection needed to now accept patients on Medicare.  Davita Hopefield Dialysis at Centennial and Rouse was built in 2016 and currently sits empty.  It's taken two years for the state to inspect the facility's practices and water purification center.  The center will hold an open house August 14th at 10:00am.

KANSAS GOVERNOR RACE

  • More than a quarter of a million votes were cast in the race between Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach and Incumbent Governor Jeff Colyer.  At this point Kobach leads by fewer than 200  votes.              But eight to 10,000 provisional ballots have not been counted.  And mail-in ballots postmarked Tuesday have until Friday to arrive in local election officials' offices.

CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES

  • Firefighters from around the globe are in California, battling more than a dozen major wildfires.   A man arrested for allegedly starting one near Los Angeles will be in court today.  51-year old Forrest Gordon Clark could face life in prison if convicted.  The Carr fire in the northern part of California is less than half contained.
