Area Pets Receive Blessing

Updated:

Sunday is a holy day for many, but today some brought pets to church.

This is the 5th year United Methodist Church has hosted its "Blessing of the Animals" worship service.

Members got their pets blessed and expressed thanks for God's creation through song and prayer.

Churches around the world honor Saint Francis of Assisi who started the blessing of pets nearly 800 years ago.

Senior Pastor Mark Chambers says it's a time to reflect on the blessing pets play in our lives.

"Pets are so much a part of people's lives. When you love them, they love you back and they are a part of God's creation."

Chambers says that the most unusual pet he's ever blessed was a hamster.
