Pittsburg Commisioners Move Ahead with Power Plan, Schlanger Park Splash Pad

Updated:
Pittsburg, KS -

Pittsburg, KS city commissioners today voted to move forward with a plan to tear up the wading pool at Schlanger Park. The pool will be replaced with a splash pad that will cost a total of $320,000, $80,000 will come from the "Everybody Plays" fund. The additional $225,000 will need to come from the state, and the city has plans to request it from the Kansas Department of Commerce.

In other business, the city approved a study to determine whether to implement a city electric utility. The city will pay $20,000 to GE Warren Associates for the study.

Pittsburg City Manager Daron Hall told KOAM "this isn't a decision with regards to who's going to provide our power, this is a part of the study of what would other options be if we didn't have Westar providing our power."
