SMOKE ALARM REMINDER

  • The time change brought with it a call to change out smoke alarm batteries.  "Change your Clock, Change your Batteries" is the slogan the fire department adopted to encourage people to make sure their smoke alarms are working properly.  Smoke alarm batteries should be changed bi-annually and detectors replaced every 10 years. Fire officials say they can save lives.

MERCY INPATIENT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

  • Mercy hospital in Joplin is adding inpatient behavioral health to serve more patients.  The hospital constructed after the Joplin tornado. At that time inpatient behavioral health services moved to a temporary location on 32nd street, now its 8th floor has been finished to serve those patients.

U.S. ARMY PREPS

  • The United States Army is preparing for the migrant caravan heading toward the U.S. Mexico border.  Various U-S army engineering battalions deployed from Fort Riley Kansas on Sunday.  President Donald Trump ordered troops to the border in response to a caravan of migrants slowly making its way through Mexico toward the United States.  More than 7,000 active duty troops have been told to deploy to Texas, Arizona and California.

MIDTERM PUSH

  • President trump continues to barnstorm across the country ahead of Tuesday's midterm elections. At four weekend rallies, the president urged supporters to vote on Tuesday.  He warned of dire consequences if republicans lose control of even part of congress.  Former President Obama made a last-minute plea for the democrats, telling his audiences not to be distracted by GOP fear-mongering.

EL CHAPO TRIAL

  • The trial of the notorious Mexican crime boss "El Chapo" gets underway today in New York.  El Chapo... Whose real name is Joaquin Guzman... Was extradited to the U.S. last year to face drug conspiracy charges.  The trial's first order of business will be jury selection. The judge has already said the jurors will remain anonymous.

    Authorities search for a vehicle involved in a high-speed chase through Lamar, Missouri. It happened on November 12th, 2018, around 7:40 a.m. The deputy first saw the vehicle near O Highway and 160 west of Lamar. The deputy then saw the vehicle travel east on 160 until it reached the substation by Barton County Electric where it then turned and went back west on 160 highway. Authorities say the vehicle continued until it turned at a residential driveway (before J Highway)...More >>
